Summer Fun

The Miriam School Summer Program is midway through their Extreme Media!! adventure. The students have been working hard to show their creativity through daily broadcasts of Good Morning, Miriam!, publishing a weekly Miriam News Crew newspaper and learning the ins and outs of our new KidPix program. Some of the students have also tried their hand at directing using our new kid-friendly Flip Cameras.

8th Grade Fun!

The graduating class of 2009 set out for their day long field trip yesterday. The students visited Swing Around Fun Town ate at the China Palace and finished up the day at Sky Zone for a jumpin' good time. We look forward to the Graduation Ceremony this afternoon. Good luck Graduates!

Springfield or Bust!

Rooms 6-9 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Springfield, Illinois last Thursday to learn more about our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The staff and students arrived bright and early for our day long trip. The classes have been studying Lincoln for the past few weeks and this was a great way to finish off!

We began our tour at New Salem where the children were able to see replicas of the general store Abe worked at as well as many other historic buildings from the time he lived there. Several of the students mentioned that they felt like they were "traveling back in time"
From there we headed to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum where the students met the Lincoln family in the lobby and watched two interactive movies about the life of the President. We saw many amazing artifacts and the students gained a much richer knowledge of President Lincoln.

The students found many ways to pass the time on the bus from reciting the "Gettysburg Address" to of course, playing video games!

Time to Hibernate!

The students of room 3 enjoyed their annual day of hibernation. The students have been learning about hibernating animals and had some hands on experience today with the help of their sleeping bags and some good books!

Unlike bears and squirrels, their hibernation was interrupted with a visit from Miss McFarland to see if they wanted to try out for the talent show. This year's talent show will be held on February 27, at 1:45. We hope to see everyone there!

Safe Surf for Kids

Today students from rooms 1, 6, 7, 8 & 9 participated in the Safe Surf classes presented by Jewish Family & Children's Service. The students were reminded of the importance of not sharing personal information online and keeping an open communication with their parents about what they are doing while surfing the net.

Safe Surf Workshops

Do you ever worry about your child's safety while they surf the internet? Join us on Thursday, January 15 at 7 p.m. for our parent seminar on internet safety presented by Jewish Family & Children's Services of St. Louis.

The students in rooms 1, 6, 7, 8 & 9 will have classroom seminars the following day with counselors to help instill the importance of keeping information private. We hope that these seminars help to keep our students safe and our parents well informed.
